Former Senator Chris Dodd has taken on the new role as head of the MPAA, and on Tuesday he lobbied in favor of SOPA. His claim that the fight is not against technology is simply not true, of course it’s against technology! You want to block websites that have any type of ties to pirated material, how is your efforts at censorship not against technology? Calls for a Lowe’s Boycott

We told you how the Florida Family Association called for companies to pull their spots from TLC’s “All-American Muslim”. Lowe’s openly admitted that it has pulled their ad because of issues raised by “a broad spectrum of customers”, failing to put in their own two-cents on the conflict and take a stand. Now there are calls to boycott the home-improvement chain and calls have also been echoed by celebrities, and Russell Simmons has taken the protest a step further. Also reports say the Florida Family Association’s website was hacked and defaced by a person associated with Anonymous.

Canada Pulls Out of Kyoto Protocol

As we told you in the beginning of this month, the Durbin summit in South Africa is currently hosting representatives from 195 countries, all for the sake of climate change. Canada’s environmental minister, Peter Kent, had announced that his country will be formally withdrawing from the Kyoto Protocol, formally ending the country’s joint-effort at combating climate change. Now when Kent announced Canada’s withdraw, he cited several reasons one of which is the price tag for meeting those target emissions levels.

Rift Between Occupy and Unions?

The country watched as Occupiers along the West Coast held a massive day of action attempting, and in some cases briefly succeeding to shut down major ports from Portland to Oakland and San Diego. At the end of the day, it’s port workers themselves who suffer from shutdowns, and losing a day’s pay. Unions didn’t participate in the event, although there were letters by port workers sent thanking the protesters, and in an essay for the New Labor Forum, Stephen Lerner who explained that this movement could do what labor couldn’t, free from the constraints of the political and economic power structure unions are connected to. Lowe’s marketing team has pulled their ads from a new TLC program, ‘All-American Muslim’. Florida Family Association, an evangelical television watchdog group says the show is propaganda clearly designed to counter legitimate and present-day concerns about many Muslims who are advancing Islamic fundamentalism and Sharia law. And apparently this group’s outrage over the program was enough to get Lowe’s to pull their ads.
